Graham Watson - Liberal Democrat MEP for South-West England and Gibraltar

GRAHAM WATSON APPEALS TO GIBRALTARIAN VOTERS ON VISIT TO ROCK

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 1st Jun 2009

Liberal Democrat European Parliamentary candidate for the South West of England & Gibraltar Graham Watson has arrived in Gibraltar for a visit ahead of polling day on 4 June.

Mr. Watson will be campaigning on the Rock this morning accompanied by fellow candidate Jonathan Stagnetto, who is the only Gibraltarian standing for election.

He'll also be meeting representatives from the business community, environmental organisations, the Moroccan community and human rights groups during his visit; along with a number of voters.

Mr. Watson has tackled a range of issues on Gibraltar's behalf since 2004, including the rights of non-EU nationals, civil aviation, territorial waters, the environment, the rights of disabled persons and pensions.

Mr. Watson has called on Gibraltarians to vote for Jonathan Stagnetto and explained the only way to do this was to vote for the Liberal Democrats who are listed at number 7 in the ballot paper.

Speaking ahead of his visit, Mr. Watson said:

"It is very important for the democratic process that people turn out to vote in large numbers. I was very proud that the turnout was so high last time and every effort must be made to ensure that Gibraltar is once again an example for the United Kingdom and others to follow in this respect."
