Graham Watson - Liberal Democrat MEP for South-West England and Gibraltar

It is disgraceful that the rights of Gibraltar's 30,000 EU citizens remain overlooked

5.15.00pm GMT Thu 6th Dec 2007

Speaking today at a conference on Europe and Democracy promotion in the presence of Commissioner Franco Frattini, European Liberal Democrat Leader Graham Watson said:

"Europe needs unfaltering commitment to project its values and expand the realm of democracy and stability beyond its borders. However, we should not forget the problems in our own backyard. It is disgraceful that the rights of Gibraltar's 30,000 EU citizens remain overlooked. The job of MEPs must be to look after the interests and defend the rights of all EU citizens".
