Brussels: The heart of Europe

Liberal Democrat MEP for the South West and Gibraltar Graham Watson is calling upon teachers in the region to take up the opportunity of a study tour to Brussels next March (25th - 28th March 2008) to see how the main EU institutions work.

The study tour, organised by the European Atlantic Movement, is arranged for lecturers, teachers and other professional and business people. In a full week, the party will visit the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, the Estonian Embassy, the Council of Europe and the Institute for European Environmental Policy.

However demand is high and there are only 30 places available at subsidised rates (£59 per person for UK serving lecturers or teachers). Commenting, Graham Watson said:

"I urge teachers in my constituency to take up this opportunity and come and see Brussels in action. There's much misunderstanding about the EU in the UK so to see the EU institutions in operation can be a real eye-opener."
