Graham Watson - Liberal Democrat MEP for South-West England and Gibraltar

Liberals making the difference in Austria

12.57.59pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 2nd Oct 2006

"Liberal Democrats across Europe welcome the success of the Social Democrat-Liberal list in Austria's general election," said Graham Watson MEP (Leader of the Liberal Democrat group in the European Parliament).

"The margin of victory is so narrow it seems almost certain that the votes of the Liberales Forum made the difference between defeat and victory."

"I congratulate Alexander Zach and his colleagues in the Liberales Forum on their result and I look forward to an active Liberal presence in Austria's parliamentary affairs to compliment the party's presence in the European Parliament."
