Lib Dem MEP to visit Plymouth

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 21st Apr 2006

Graham Watson, the Lib Dem Euro MP for Plymouth, will today visit the City of Plymouth on Friday 21st April to campaign in the run-up to the local elections on Thursday 4th May.

Out campaigning, Graham will join forces with Councillor Karen Gillard, the leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Plymouth City Council. The Lib Dem Group has only this week welcomed a new 'convert' to the ranks. On 13th April Bernard Brotherton, the Plymouth City Councillor for Devonport Ward left the Labour Party to join the Liberal Democrats.

Graham said:

"I am looking forward to visiting Plymouth today and to campaigning to help our Liberal Democrat councillors continue in their success. The Lib Dem group has grown under Karen Gillard's enthusiastic leadership and I am pleased to welcome Bernard Brotherton as our newest recruit."

"People are beginning to realise that Plymouth is no longer a two party area and that the Liberal Democrats are a growing force as an alternative."
