Legal action against government over renewable electricity damning - Watson

10.52.44am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 5th Apr 2006

The European Commission is to take legal action against the British Government for failing to comply with EU legislation promoting renewable electricity.

Commenting on this, Graham Watson, Lib Dem Euro-MP for the South West and Gibraltar said:

"The launch of this legal action is a damning indictment of Labour's record on the environment. It has been exposed as less green and more dirty brown.

"Is it any wonder that greenhouse gas emissions have risen since Tony Blair came to power when his Government is not even taking the steps to encourage renewable electricity required by EU law?"
