Somerset Group visits European Parliament12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 21st Apr 2005
The Avalon Probus Group led by Mr Noel Burrell, visited the European Parliament this week as guests of Graham Watson, the Liberal Democrat MEP for Somerset. The 36 members of the Avalon Probus Group based in Somerset visited Brussels from 19th - 21st April and spent the afternoon of 20th April at the European Parliament. The group enjoyed a lunch hosted by Graham and then had a two hour tour of Parliament, which included a visit to the hemi-cycle debating chamber, though Parliament was not in session at the time. Graham Watson commented after the visit: "It gave me great pleasure, as always, to be able to show some of my constituents around the European Parliament in Brussels. Those of us elected as Members of the European Parliament must strive to make it less remote for our constituents, and one of the ways I try to do this is by hosting visits such as the one enjoyed this week by the Avalon Probus Group. They were an interesting and interested group keen to know more about the European Union Institutions and to learn of the positive effect that the EU has on all our lives."
